Project History, Year 2000

The seeds of what was to become The Educational AIDS Mission: TEAM Tanzania, were sown in 2000 during a short-term mission trip to the Diocese of Mpwapwa in central Tanzania.

Blair Henneke Martin, TEAM's founder, was asked by the Bishop of Mpwapwa, Simon Chiwanga, to conduct an afternoon seminar on HIV/AIDS for the teacher's training college. She was amazed to discover that in spite of the pervasiveness of the disease, few people had any factual knowledge about HIV/AIDS, either its causes or its prevention.
